Rachel’s Raise of HOPE 2014

We celebrated the Great Strides walk a week ago Saturday.  (Life has been crazy busy since.  Piano recitals, graduations parties, wrapping up the end of our homes school year, state track meet, beginning a remodel project on the front porch, and our homeschool track meet…just to name a few. =) So, I am just getting a chance to blog about the walk.)

Well, I will first let the picture speak for itself!

Grateful and thankful for each and every person represented here and the hundreds more around the country that were there in spirit!  These are the faces of those fighting for Rachel’s life and future!  These people, are those so dear to my heart that I could NEVER express my deep heart’s gratitude.  Please take a long look, and know that they have touched the heart of God, by caring for the sick.

Love this smile and this girl. So inspired by her spirit and love of life!

This year the weather for the walk was just about as perfect as perfect could be!  Easily the BEST that we have ever experienced with weather.  (Remember last year it was 40’s and near freezing drizzle.)  This year, it was 68 degrees, and SUNNY!  Each and every year we are encouraged beyond measure at the people who choose to take time out of their busy days to come walk with us.  For most it is just a day to come out and walk…HOWEVER, for us it is so, so much more!!  There is life and encouragement for us!  Battling Cystic Fibrosis each and every day of our lives is thankfully, a burden that few can understand.  But, it is HEAVY!  So many days we just feel worn, bruised and weary from the struggle that it takes to  live and breath.  So, to see others come out to support our fight, brings a hope so bright that little can contain it.  This hope is a light that transcends the spirit.  It helps us to face the trials and fears with bravery and courage knowing that others are praying for us, and willing to walk alongside us both physically and emotionally.  Anyone who struggles knows that you sometimes feign strength to get through the daily.  Each part of Rachel’s team brings a veritable and genuine reminder that God has a perfect plan!  While sickness is not part of His perfect plan, people caring for others is.  Last Saturday…we were cared for in a HUGE way.

One of my favorite pictures of the day. Sweet Rachel’s face peeking out with the amazing group of people standing behind her.  Look at that LONG LINE!!  BLESSING from the Lord!

We figured out that we had around 200 people that came out in support of Rachel. There are NO WORDS to explain to others the strength that those numbers bring to us all throughout the year!

Each and every year one of our main goals with fundraising is spread awareness.  (Money buys science, but awareness changes the course of the journey.)  There is something transforming about others knowing of your struggles.  It seems to ensures others willingness to pray, encourage and support a drive for a cure.  By the grace of God, this was accomplished this year.  We hope and pray that many learned at least one new thing about CF.  We prayed that others caught our mission…and how very close we are to finding a therapy (working cure) to change the future of life with CF.  One way that blessed our hearts was to know that our Rachel’s Raise of Hope shirts went all over the country!!  People have them in 22 states and 4 countries!!  HOW AWESOME IS THAT?  Feeling some major love from around the country and world.

Just some of the amazing people from around the country and world that were representing Team Rachel's Raise of Hope. BLESSED!! =)

We have the most inspirational group of friends and family!! Oh, and did I mention that

Rachel Team Raised OVER $15,000 TOWARDS a CURE!!

Daily, thankful for the time with ALL of my family!

Total From the Omaha Walk was an amazing

for what this number represents.  It is money that will help our family stay together longer!   For this mama, this is a God given blessing and miracle!!  Time is a gift and a treasure!  Thank you for being part of that gift.

Taking a moment to thank the HUGE group of people that came out in support.  Mom and dad could not help but have tears of joy. The walk brings incredible joy each year, but it is also followed closely by a deep sense of urgency! I see the shirts that say, “Walking in remembrance of…” These break my heart. I DON’T want to be that family!  I WANT a cure for my baby girl!  Watching the throngs of friends and family line up for our TEAM picture was absolutely OVERWHELMING this year!  There is a enormous sense of humility in knowing that if your child is to have a chance at a long, and healthy future, you must ask everyone you know to come alongside to help!  Each person that gave, and walked, and prayed, and shared our story… gave us hope, that life will soon be different for our girl!

I am still in awe at the wonder and kindness of the Lord.  The money raised and the people that showed up in support was a testimony to the goodness of God.  Throughout the morning, several of the people that work at our clinic, and for the Foundation commented about our team.  It was a perfect segue to speak of where our TRUE HOPE comes…JESUS CHRIST!   “When God’s people love Jesus, they show it by loving and caring for people.”  I must have said that phrase a dozen times last Saturday, and oh, how it echoed in our hearts!

From our family to yours…Thank you for supporting our quest for a cure for Cystic Fibrosis!

As long as we have breath, we will hope and fight for Rachel’s future!
