Precious School Memories

Blessed by a wonderful place in life.  Taking some time today to reflect on the way the Lord blesses me through the privilege of getting to spend time with my children every day.  Teaching, learning, growing and preparing them for the life that God has blessed us to share together!

Growing up so quickly

The Joy of Children

Love this picture of Shiloh. She packed her Bible in her backpack to walk around the block..then had to stop to read it. PRECIOUS!

The kids started this crazy thing last year where they walk around the block on the first day of school with their backpacks on.  (Thank you Jennie for the idea, they love it.)  As has been the custom, we then take pictures and it is our official start to the school year.  It is fun for all of us!  I get great pictures and they get to have some fresh air to start the day.

Precious gifts from the Lord!

Beautiful child

Sweet Girl

The cake is a funny tradition that I started years ago.  Once again they think it is awesome.  The cake gets less and less fancy each year although they seem to like the idea of a cake more and more each year.  Probably because I let them eat it for the morning snack and they get to cut their own piece.  Simple joys!

The not so fancy, but oh so fun first day of school cake! Special days require special memories.

This year we had to do our Back to school celebration a bit different due to work issues (from Dad).  So we celebrated the first day of school and then had the dinner that night!  It was a blessing and an incredible reminder of the gravity and enormous responsibility that God has us to train up our children.  Not just in education, but in character as well.

While the kids LOVE the dinner, it really is more for Paul and myself.  We spend some time praying specifically for each of the children as well as ourselves as their parents.  This year was no different.  We set the table in the dinning room (okay had to CLEAR the table of all of the school related books and other various things) and had special food and dishes (4 were broken that night…only they were broken by mom and dad=0).  It is so fun to see the smiles on the kids’ faces.

Not too fancy...but the kids think it is fancy so that is all that counts! Big smiles on their faces!

Mom even got in the picture this year...although silly as it is!

So thrilled.Adorable!

Adorable!

Celebrating the Lords direction and goodness! Instruction will be a garland to grace your head and a chain to adorn your neck.

This year I bought leis and other tropical garb for our celebration.  It went perfectly with the passage that Dad read in our Bible reading time (we didn’t plan it, but once again a reminder that God is in control and has a perfect plan).  Dad read Proverbs 1:1-9

1 The proverbs of Solomon son of David, king of Israel:

2 for gaining wisdom and instruction;
for understanding words of insight;
3 for receiving instruction in prudent behavior,
doing what is right and just and fair;
4 for giving prudence to those who are simple,[a]
knowledge and discretion to the young—
5 let the wise listen and add to their learning,
and let the discerning get guidance—
6 for understanding proverbs and parables,
the sayings and riddles of the wise.[b]

7 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge,
   but fools[c] despise wisdom and instruction.

8 Listen, my son, to your father’s instruction
   and do not forsake your mother’s teaching.
9 They are a garland to grace your head
   and a chain to adorn your neck.

This couldn’t have been more perfect!  We discussed the importance of God’s word, and how it truly is the beginning of wisdom.  AFter discussing each verse and its application, we gave the children either a lei or a tropical flower for their head!  THEY LOVED IT!!  The last part of our awesome back to school family night was a can of silly string.  I didn’t get any pictures of this because I was so busy running after the kids and trying not to get hit with the string. We tied this to the fact that first we want to be connected to the Lord in all that we do and second, to be connect and love one another as our first “neighbors” in this world.

Blessed beyond…God is good.

**Evidence by the fact that this post is now almost a month old…life is busy with school, but it is good and I am truly blessed by the work and sacrifices that are made in doing what the Lord calls me to do.  May He receive all of the glory and honor for His work through and in me!
