2 More Days Until Walk

GREAT STRIDES 2011

Great Strides Pictures from 2010.

Caleb wanted a ride….mom was willing and able.=)
Fun on the bridge!  A bit cold, but still sporting lots of smiles.

Morning of the walk.

My sister modeling Rachel’s shirts. We will be wearing either blue or gray shirts.

We are so excited for the walk this year.  Somehow the  walk is the place where we see and know that the disease of Cystic Fibrosis is so much bigger than we are.  Although this year the spaghetti dinner provided this joy tenfold for our family!! The walk is the icing on the cake.  Rachel is soooo excited to go!  Last year she spent time with a friend, the year before Great Grandma and the years before that my mother. So she is really looking forward to this event.  She is especially excited to see the mascots, and cheerleaders.  Last year she asked if I could take pictures of the cheerleaders for her so she could see them.  This year it will be fun to see her reaction to the party like atmosphere of the walk day.

The weather will be a challenge again this year!!!  (Starting to think this is just how it is for CF walk day…high’s and low’s and a lot of unpredictables in the middle.  A little representative of CF in general.) Well, after the record setting high temperatures of this week (97 degrees) is sounds like we are going to be setting record lows for the CF walk morning (42 degrees) this year.  So if you are coming DRESS WARM and IN LAYERS!!!  Something we learned from last year, since the walk is by the river it will be much colder than it is when you step outside at your own house.  You might even want to wear/bring a coat.  Last year it felt good once we started walking, but it was REALLY COLD to start off.

9:30 Registration

This is a good time for chatting, eating some fruit and bagels and just taking in the depth of an event like this.

1- Parking available in several locations. Heartland of America 8th and Dodge, Rick’s Boatyard lot (NOT in the numbered spots), National Parking Services lot. BEING EARLY WILL HELP YOU MORE EASILY FIND A SPOT.  There is a graduation starting at the Quest center at 9:30.

2-  There will be a sign Rachel’s Raise of Hope somewhere in front of the stairs in front of Rick’s Boatyard.  We will also have an orange wagon with us!

3-  You are encouraged to fill out a waiver form/walk brochure if you haven’t registered online.  (It is not required, only appreciated.)

4-  We will have our tshirts there at the walk.  We are requesting $5 a piece or WHATEVER you can give.  (We really want everyone to have a shirt if possible. Although we only have mostly adult sizes left. So let us know what you need.)  All of this money goes to CF research!

10:15

Opening Ceremonies.

10:30 Walk Begins

FOOD and Festivities

Before the walk, enjoy Bruegger’s bagels, Starbucks coffee, fruit and beverages. When you return, feast on Runzas, cookies, water and soda.  Climb aboard fire trucks, watch the COuntry Kickers performance, shoot a few baskets and slip down the inflatable slide!  You can also enjoy clown, balloons, mascots, massage therapists and live music provided by Exit 41.

Notice we had sweatshirts UNDER our team shirts!!  BRRRR!!

Email us if you have any questions.  It sounds like it is going to be a brisk morning, but we will have some sunny warm smiles on our faces when we see your face!

We are honored and humbled by your support of our family. So many of you have given so much encouragement, love and hope by coming alongside us.  God is good, and we are thankful for His wisdom and kindness in putting our family on your hearts.  YOU ARE A REMINDER OF HIS GREAT LOVE!!  THANK YOU!! See you at the walk!!
