Praying for a Miracle…doing our part

Rachel and Cousin Jennie Finch

Every day..and countless moments throughout everyday Cystic Fibrosis demands our emotional, physical and spiritual energy.  It is a strange blessing in that it forces us to totally rely on the Lord for the strength to make it one more treatment, one more sickness, one more day.  Every day I look and research about possible ideas, medicines, natural remedies that I can do to make Rachel’s life better, healthier and longer.  At times I research till late into the evening (early in the morning) reading medical journals and studies that have been done relating to CF.   I want so desperately for Rachel’s life to have a long future ahead.  Now I know that God is more than able to simply cure her today at His command.  However, I also know that He requires us to work as if it all depends on us and live and believe as if it all depends on Him.  When I think of this quote, it brings a smile to my heart and it lights a fire in me to do what I can.

Lately we have been trying to figure out how we can do more to get a cure for our daughter here quicker. We have prayed for ideas and direction. We did a fundraiser last spring and raised over $3,500. We were very excited, but it also made us want to do so much more.  We know that the cure is out there and we are getting so much closer.  However those trials and tons of research don’t come with out a cost….so…we have been dreaming, praying and trying to develop a plan.  Well, I think we have a plan.  Last night my cousin, Jennie Finch, was in town  and upon talking to her we began working on getting a fundraiser organized.  I was really excited.  We talked about doing a mini softball camp followed by some sort of dinner/auction.  Right now it is in the  very preliminary  stages of seeing the “what and the if” we can get this off the ground.  It sounds like a lot to bite off in the midst of our crazy busy life…and yet, how do we not do something if we can. There is something to be said for a mama’s heart that will do anything for her child!

So as we contemplate this endeaver the one thing that is clear is that we need people that will help us in organizing an event.  If there are any people that read this that might be willing to help or at least pray for us, we would be grateful.  We feel like having the opportunity to have a big name like Jennie who is willing to help us do an event and not capitalizing upon it would be dishonoring to the Lord.  We have been praying for a direction and now we feel like God has given us an opportunity… it is our responsibility to follow His lead.  So… we continue to pray and work with all our might.  We are praying for  a miracle and doing our part to be used by the Lord.  Not only for a miracle cure for Rachel, but for the Lord to be honored in all that we do.  We know that He will use it to bring others to Him.
